“Millard opened his guitar case. Tenderly, like a whisper, they began to play … There was nothing else just then, only the music, sweet as the evening breeze, heart wrenching and pure … ” — The Boston Globe
Bruce Millard’s resume brings to mind a Reader’s Guide to American Music — he’s appeared with Howard ‘Louie Bluie’ Armstrong in the PBS documentary ‘Sweet Old Song,’ recorded several albums with Jim Kweskin, performed and / or recorded with indie stalwarts Dennis Brennan, Tarbox Ramblers, Gunther Schuller, Tower of Power, and more. His performances rarely acknowledge and freely cross stylistic borders, resulting in appearances at venues as diverse as the New York City Blues Festival, the Boston Folk Festival, the Country Music Hall of Fame and more.

Since Amazing Things opened in 2005, Millard’s annual shows have been known for their euphoric sense of freedom, juggling unique backing musicians, instruments, styles, and song choices in an Old Time Revue format that highlights his band as much as himself — a bunch of little concerts rolled into one. Another key element is the special guests — from year to year a shifting and diverse assortment of well-known Boston musicians, both sitting in and Millard backing them on their own material. The result is music that straddles the line between loose and tight, traditional and modern, original songs and re-imagined covers, the familiar and the unknown. Would you want it any other way?
THE BAND: Scott Shetler, Jerome Deupree, John Anderson, & Matt Leavenworth.
Special Guests: Anita Suhanin, Frank Wilkins
Opening: Senie Hunt
Sierra Leone-born singer-songwriter Senie Hunt’s passion for music began with West African drumming. That influence, and those percussive techniques, are imaginatively woven into his fresh, contemporary approach to guitar.
