Kevin So’s Workshop has been postponed! Please check back for more info.
When Kevin was invited to join the Keb’ Mo’ Band in 2011 and subsequently toured around the world with Keb’ in 2011 throughout 2013, his instructions were simple: “Make us sound expensive” (in Keb’s own words).
Kevin has performed around the world in a plethora of musical settings, including blues, jazz, R&B, country, rock, pop, folk and even musical theater, in which his original musical “GREAT WALL” was awarded “Best Music & Lyrics” at the 2007 New York International Fringe Festival. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California and has written songs with 3-time Grammy award winner Keb’ Mo’, Nashville hit writer Benita Hill, blues songstress Shemekia Copeland, and pop/country songwriter Jan Buckingham.
Using his own compositions as well as some cover songs as references, this intense 2-hour workshop (with a short break) will cover some of the tricks of the trade, including reharmonization and rhythmic ideas, as well as a “how to” in playing in a rhythm section (drums & bass). If you are looking for inspiration in getting your own songs or your own performance to the next level, then this is a great workshop for you in beginning your journey to making yourself “sound expensive” !
Attendees will be expected to bring their own staff paper, as well as instruments, including keyboards (with speakers preferably) and acoustic guitars (if electric, please provide your own amp).
Class is limited to 20
