ABOUT DEBORAH BOTTOMLEY:
Deborah was born in Mikwaukee, Wisconsin. Her family moved to Michigan while she was in high school. It was then that she began painting in oils and acrylics and working in pen and ink and charcoal.
Originally interested in a career in Art Therapy, Deborah graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a BFA/Fine Arts with teaching certification K-12 Art and K-8 General Studies. It was at Easter Michigan when Deborah first began painting in watercolors, studying with Ian Beginin.
Spending many years in industrial silk-screening kept Deborah in touch with her artistic talents. Since relocating to Massachusetts in 1997, Deborah has reawakened her focus on fine art, returning to painting and drawing. In addition to her current work, Deborah has completed many mural and trompe l'oeil commissions in area residential settings. She is available to do portrait, residential and pet portrait commissions.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
As an artist, I enjoy working with a variety of materials and mediums. I enjoy the textures and detail achievable with pen and ink or charcoal pencil. I love the spontaneity of watercolors and the challenge of utilizing the white of the paper to create the final layers of lights and darks. My subject matter ranges from traditional landscape and portrait to a more contemporary suggestive tone, portraying a mood or emotion rather than a realistic likeness of the subject matter.
