Students will learn the methods of traditional calligraphy using using dip pens with steel nibs and Sumi ink. Proper pen grip and pen angle are learned first. The provided exemplars will reflect a formal alphabet in the Italic hand and instruction will emphasize the proper construction of these letters with good balance and consistency of spacing and letter slant. Students will also learn to rule their own lines on blank paper and draw letter slant guidelines using rulers and triangles.
