Framingham native and Berklee piano professor Jason Yeager returns to the Amazing Things Arts Center, this time collaborating New Orleans-bred composer/saxophonist Randal Despommier, in a celebration of their new collaborative album, All At Onceness (Red Piano Records). This genre- and centuries-spanning amalgam is a soulful mix of improvisational arrangements of Renaissance, Baroque, Romantic, twentieth-century, and contemporary pieces. With source material ranging from Bach to Coltrane, Messiaen to Monk, these intrepid composer-improvisers stake out their own territory in a diverse program that combines folk-like melodies, evocative harmonies, and infectious rhythms.

Mark Shilansky and his group Fugue Mill weave jazz through the fabric of Bluegrass, Celtic, and Classical music, creating a complex yet attractive blend of musical styles and traditions. Original group pieces are featured side by side with music by such composers as Thelonious Monk, Leonard Cohen, and Samuel Barber. Violin and mandolin augment the lineup, creating a transparent and vibrant palette of improvisation and counterpoint. Members of the group combine their wide-ranging experience into a musical melange that explores diverse idioms, linked through improvisation and groove.
